Cristina Getson is an abstract expressionist painter based in Toronto, Canada. With a degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto, she left a corporate career to focus on painting. Working with acrylics, Cristina’s work is imbued with strong colours, and influenced by the pull of opposites - smooth and rough, light and dark, indefinite and detailed. The application and layering of acrylic paint is made visible through the brushstrokes and palette knife marks left behind; it is a joyful revelling in the materiality of the paint itself. She has exhibited in Canada and across the US, and was accepted as an Artist-in-Residence at Palazzo Monti in Italy, in 2018.
